Q :

What is fat grafting? Does it have a role in breast reconstruction?

A :

Fat transfer is the act of taking a patient’s own fat using liposuction and reinjecting it at another site, in this case the breast. The fat can be taken from anywhere in the body but usually we prefer the abdomen since it is the richest in stem cells. The fat has many benefits, including augmenting the volume of a reconstructed breast, increasing the natural aspect of the reconstructed breast, improving the end aesthetic result as well as fixing deformities. N.B. It takes several months to see the final result after fat transfer.
