BREAST AWARENESS

LEBANON HAD THE SIXTH HIGHEST RATE OF BREAST CANCER IN WOMEN IN 2018.*

If high risk factors apply to you, you should consult your physician concerning the necessity of mammograms before the age of forty, or if any another modality other than a mammogram should be used (such as an MRI).

KNOW WHAT'S NORMAL FOR YOU.

Breast awareness means that you should know the usual appearance of your breasts and recognize if any physical changes occur. It is normal for breasts to feel different during stages of the monthly cycle, but any abnormal changes should be reported to a doctor.

EARLY SYMPTOMS

Early symptoms of breast cancer could be a change in the size, shape, or feel of the breast. This could imply a lump inside the breast, changes in the skin tone and color, or changes in the shape of the nipple.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO CHECK ALL PARTS OF THE BREAST FROM THE ARMPITS TO THE COLLARBONE.

OF CASES OF BREAST CANCER CAN BE

CURED IF DETECTED EARLY.

  • BREAST SELF EXAMS

NBCC offers trainings and guided pamphlets for Breast Self-Exams that teach women how to check for lumps on their own. Breast Self-Exams should be conducted once a month, and they can be performed in front of a mirror, in the shower, or lying down. Sometimes the cancer is in its early stages, so it is important for women to undergo screenings, such as mammograms, which help detect cancer before the formation of lumps.

BREAST SELF-EXAMS SHOULD BE CONDUCTED ONCE A MONTH.

  • MAMMOGRAMS

A mammogram is an x-ray that allows the breast-qualified physician to investigate the breast tissue for any irregular areas. Even though most lumps found are benign, doctors need to be sure by asking for further tests such as ultrasounds, MRIs, or biopsies to examine the abnormality.

IN LEBANON, WOMEN WHO ARE FORTY AND OLDER SHOULD BE SCREENED VIA MAMMOGRAMS EVERY YEAR.

If high risk factors apply to you, you should consult your physician concerning the necessity of mammograms before the age of forty, or if any another modality other than a mammogram should be used (such as an MRI).
