In case breast cancer is diagnosed, NBCC offers the most cutting-edge treatment options. Treatment options available at NBCC include surgery, chemotherapy and hormone therapy. Radiotherapy will be available in partnership with other medical centers.
Surgery: The most common form of treatment for breast cancer is surgery. This could involve removing the whole breast gland (modified mastectomy) with immediate or delayed reconstruction, or removing the tumor and nearby tissue (partial mastectomy / lumpectomy) and oncoplastic reconstruction.
Chemotherapy is a breast cancer treatment option that uses a combination of drugs to either destroy cancer cells or diminish their growth.
Hormone Therapy: If the cancer cells have the proper hormone receptors, hormone therapy drugs, such as blockers or inhibitors, may be prescribed. Both types of drugs aid in destroying cancer cells by eliminating their source of hormones and by playing a role in future protection and preventing the cancer from coming back.
